Mark is founder of Kieser & Associates, LLC, an environmental science and engineering consultancy based in Kalamazoo, Michigan since 1992. Mark has a broad range of environmental management experience from watershed planning and policy development to remedial investigation and cleanup. This includes over three decades of water resources consulting in addition to three years of academic research on eutrophication issues in the U.S. Great Lakes.

Mark has been a pioneer and leader in U.S. water quality trading program and policy development from trading’s inception. Since 1995, he has led the assessment and/or development of a variety of market-based incentive programs in 23 states focused on: watershed, state-wide and regional trading program development; agricultural credit banking schemes; urban storm water trading; trading registries and infrastructure; development of ecosystem service markets; restoration of natural flow regimes in Great Lakes tributaries, and; nutrient enrichment in the Chesapeake Bay, the Gulf of Mexico and the Western Lake Erie Basin. Mark is internationally recognized for his expertise in water markets assisting government agencies in Canada, Peru, Sweden, the European Union, Japan and China with policy development.

Mark holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Biological Sciences from Wittenberg University (Springfield, Ohio) and Michigan Technological University (Houghton, Michigan), respectively.
